Film Previsualization: Mise-en-scene

Writer's picture: Natasha NambiarNatasha Nambiar

30th of November 2021, Mr. Affendi has given us another task to do and that is to create our mise-en-scene. Mise-en-scene is needed in the production because it helps us to better visualise how and where the camera will be placed. Not only that, we get to know the preparation and the props needed, that is going to be used in the video.

Mr. Affendi has explained that we do not need to make the video using a camera and we could use the phone but film it horizontally. He wanted to see the way we film. He also wanted us to try and film for the first time (well, it is my first time) and use whatever methods of filming like panning the camera or tilting, close up shot, extreme close up shot etc., in the video.

I get to prepare all of the stuff I need to make the video by establishing the mise-en-scene. This was a great experience for me since I was able to visualise or imagine a lot of what I wanted to capture, and I had a lot of fun planning and design out each stage. It was also frustrating since I didn't know where to begin or how to accomplish it, and I frequently doubted myself and overthought everything. However, I was able to show how and where I decided to shoot, as well as the equipment I wanted to utilise for the project, and I was quite proud of myself for coming up with amazing alternatives or ideas to tackle whatever challenge I had considered.
